Sturmanskie Watches
Navigator's watch, in Russian "Shturmanskie" was created with the emphasis on design coming from the Russian aviation and space exploration programs. Starting in 1949, Shturmanskie wrist instruments were designed to military specifications and were manufactured especially for the Air Force. In fact, the watches did not go on sale to general public and were given to new pilots together with their graduation diplomas from the Air Force Academies. The brand's space odyssey began on April 12, 1961 when cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin took the watch with him in the first manned space flight. Later, many Russian cosmonauts flew into space with Shturmanskie watches. A new commemorative model, Shturmanskie Gagarin, designed in honor of the fortieth anniversary of the first man's space flight, flew to space on the wrist of cosmonaut Yuri Shargin in October 2004. With the emphasis on design coming from the "space" program, these watches offer exceptional build quality and craftsmanship using the same high quality mechanism as used in the Buran and Aviator brands. Take a closer look at these famous "cosmonaut" timepieces.
